Don't miss the White Night in Loule (Portugal, Algarve, Loule) If you're in the Algarve at the end of August (28 August), don't miss the all-night summer party known as Noite Branca or "White Night." It takes place throughout the city streets, which are all decorated in white, and features live music, international DJs, street entertainers and eye-catching urban art. Entrance is free - just come dressed in white.
Noite Branca or "White Night" first took place in Loulé in 2007, and is based on the White Night concept which started in Paris and is now held in cities all over Europe. Thousands will flock to one of Portugal's biggest chill-out events, with Loulé's streets decorated in white, and shops and restaurants staying open late, with special white window displays and discounts to customers wearing white.
The central part of the city will be transformed into a huge "living room" with the colour white being the connecting factor between the different areas, music stages and themed features. There will be live music, international DJs, street entertainers and eye-catching urban art, and you'll find pianists, saxophonists, jazz bands, jugglers, fire eaters, human statues, clowns, magicians and a host of other entertainers, all dressed in white.
Entrance is free and all that is expected of you is that you dress in white and enjoy everything that this superb night has to offer. White Night is held on the last Saturday of August - another great event of the Algarve summer.

House in small Development with Pool (near Maia Praia Beach in Lagos) $500 3bd The villa is part of a block of eight other houses. The complete complex has 66 villas and apartments in total in a beautiful landscaped garden. It is very private and enclosed. Entrance to the villa is via a locked gate and the property is secure. The block is one of a half dozen or so in the complex. There are three good sized bedrooms. One downstairs has a double bed and en suite and there are two more upstairs, both with two single beds. The two upstairs bedrooms share a bathroom. There is a large sitting/dining room with a TV and Stereo. The complex has a shared large swimming pool with a bar & restaurant at the poolside. The staff all speak good English. The grounds are immaculate.
It’s a two minute walk to the swimming pool from the villa and about a 5 minute drive to the beach or 15 minutes walk. The beach is huge, about 6Km (4 miles) long and 100 to 200 metres deep. If you wish you can rent a sun bed and eat and drink in the many bars & restaurants along the beach. Linda’s Bar and The Bahia Beach are favourites. The beautiful town of Lagos is about 10 minutes drive or €6 ($7) in a taxi.
Lagos is chock full of restaurants which are very good and reasonably priced. House wine is about €6 ($8) a bottle. My favourite restaurant is on the Beach and has beautiful views of the sea, the beach, the marina and Lagos. Lagos centre is pedestrianised and many of the roads are cobbled. There is a new Marina across the sea inlet from Lagos. The Marina with its many yachts also has chic restaurants and bars. The South Bar, a yachty pub in the marina has a Happy Hour from 5pm to 7pm. Sagres lager is only €1.50 a pint. Wine is also reduced. Lagos also has a fabulous fish market and plenty of supermarkets and shops, including a very good French Intermarché. Food and wine are quite cheap. Fish is without doubt their speciality as Lagos is an old Atlantic fishing port. Because the kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and with a plentiful supply of good seafood locally, eating in some nights is a must. There is also a charcoal BBQ.
The Algarve is famous for all -year-round golfing and the beautiful Palmares Golf Club is only 5 minutes drive from the villa. It is just under one hour’s drive from Faro airport along a modern motorway to Lagos. Nearby are other many resorts, Golf Clubs & towns such as Luz, Portimao, Albufeira etc. Boavista Golf Club also has a restaurant.
Lagos also has a late night Jazz & Blues Club called Steve Ray’s after the famous Bluesman, Steve Ray Vaughan and has live bands many nights. There are a number of very good and atmospheric English and Irish pubs selling quite drinkable Guinness. Many of the bars in the Marina have live music and quite a high standard. The Pickle & Pie is a new English pub in the Marina, run by an Irishman!
